A Center For Fun, Sport, Health & Fitness

Strength-Determination-Fortitude-Energy-Heart-Discipline-Courage-Self Esteem-Focus- Confidence.

The Shaolin Wushu Center was originally founded in South Windsor, CT in 1997. However, after twelve years in CT, Master Hu and Zong decided to relocate the center to sunny Los Angeles to be closer to their daughter.

Based in Los Angeles since 2009, the Shaolin Wushu Center offers a variety of classes in Kung Fu (Gong Fu) and Taiji (T'ai Chi) for athletes of all ages and abilities—from the novice to the seasoned international competitor-- and has trained thousands of students.

The Shaolin Wushu center has sponsored seven international wushu tournaments in Los Angeles and has organized 18 major cultural exchange events between China and the U.S. (which includes opportunities for our students to visit and train there).

Master Hu and his senior instructors lead the adult learner on a wonderous journey through the world of Wushu. Through diligence and practice (offered days, nights and weekends) the student will expect to develop top skills in many aspects of martial arts and health. There is no limit to how far a student can progress: from simple awareness of the self to able self defense practitioner to world champion Wushu practitioner. Training is available in many styles of open-hand and weapons traditions.

Classes are available in a wide variety of traditional and contemporary Chinese martial arts including:

  • northern and southern fist
  • northern and southern staff, northern and southern broadsword, straight sword and 9-section chain-whip
  • mimetic animal styles such as praying mantis, snake and eagle
  • the health-enhancing arts of taiji and qigong
  • grappling and wrestling for self defense
  • programs of stunt choreography and acting for martial arts films

In conjunction with Master Hu’s yearly international exchange program, our students have the opportunity to visit and train in China to help to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and martial arts. This is a unique experience that truly enriches our students' lives.

A Commitment to Excellence

Children can start training in martial arts at a very young age. Martial arts allow children to rapidly increase strength and flexibility and improve coordination. Not only do they learn important self-defense techniques, but they can also better excel at other sports and activities due to their increased body awareness.

The Shaolin Wushu Center's martial arts classes will help students reach high levels of physical ability. However, we believe that the most important elements that children will develop from our Kung fu/Wushu classes are the importance of hard work, discipline, and respect for others. This combination of exercise and discipline results in:

  • improved balance and coordination
  • increased attention span
  • better overall physical fitness
  • improved self control.

Children receive training in "little tiger" hand forms, Kung fu fan and Kung fu staff.

Kung fu/Wushu is disciplined, skill building, instills character and it is fun. Most importantly the chance to master a unique skill increases the child’s self confidence and often spills over into other areas of academics and socialization.

We also offer dramatic arts classes for children, another excellent avenue in the child's overall development.
